Historical warming consistently decreased size, dispersal and speciation rate of fish

چکیده

There is ongoing debate as to whether fish body size will decrease with global warming and how these changes may impact dispersal ability speciation rate. Theory predicts that, under warmer temperatures, grow a smaller size, undergo reduction in increase rates. However, evaluations of such predictions are hampered owing the lack empirical data spanning both wide temporal geographical scales. Here, using phylogenetic methods, we show that clupeiform (anchovies herrings) occurred historically waters, moved shortest distances at low speed displayed lowest Furthermore, faster evolved rapidly higher rates temperature change but historical far lower than current Our results predict future where have reduced move be more prevalent; this, turn, reduce speciation. Phylogenetic over past ~150 million years shorter had Fish quicker periods rapid change, implications for movement survival climate change.

Horizontal Gene Transfer, Dispersal and Haloarchaeal Speciation

The Halobacteria are a well-studied archaeal class and numerous investigations are showing how their diversity is distributed amongst genomes and geographic locations. Evidence indicates that recombination between species continuously facilitates the arrival of new genes, and within species, it is frequent enough to spread acquired genes amongst all individuals in the population. To create perm...

Historical biogeography and speciation in the reef fish genus Haemulon (Teleostei: Haemulidae).

The high biodiversity of tropical marine hotspots has long intrigued evolutionary biologists and biogeographers. The genus Haemulon (grunts) is one of the most important (numerically, ecologically, and economically) reef fish groups in the New World and an excellent candidate to test hypotheses of speciation and diversity generation in the Greater Caribbean, the richest Atlantic biodiversity ho...

Historical Biogeography of Five Characidium Fish Species: Dispersal from the Amazon Paleobasin to Southeastern South America

Characidium is a Neotropical fish genus. Its distribution ranges from eastern Panama to northern Argentina, and it is an important component of the Neotropical ichthyofauna present in the major rivers of South America. We here provide an approximation to the dispersal and historical distributions of Characidium. The biogeographic history of five species of the genus was analyzed through nuclear...
